Who are you? I'm Amanda, an experienced content + design strategist. What does that mean? I've worked as a "content person" in design for 10 years, which means I've learned a few things about how design and content can make each other better. How so? I really enjoy working with product people to bring a story to life through great design. Ultimately, I believe content and design are essential pieces to any great product story. Did you say "product story?" What is that? Why yes, I did. Never heard of that before? Strange right? Somehow product development became a trifecta of product designers, engineers and product managers, but no content people. Which is pretty odd when you think about how important content is in products. What do you propose? I've focused on working with "product people" from a content + design strategy perspective, and it's been pretty amazing. It turns out product people welcome having someone to manage the story side of things. But most of them have never worked with a content person before, so I often find myself initially having to advocate for the value of content in product. What exactly is the value of content in product? Every product has a story—a way it guides a user through interactions, how it unfolds features and furthers engagement, how it shows users information in a way they've never seen it before. All of this is story. But for some reason it's not acknowledged as such. Are you saying you think content is the future? Content is already here. Everything we consume online is content—from videos to tweets, quizzes to articles, photos to snaps. Where I think content is going NEXT is to become an essential leg of product development. Who have you worked with? Time Inc., InStyle Magazine, Lincoln Motor Company, Victoria's Secret, American Express, Parsons School of Design, and more. What do you do when you're not working on content and design projects? I'm always digging through digital crates in search of new music. One of my favorite things in the world is to find hidden musical gems and share them with people I know will appreciate them. I'm also working on a few stories that I hope to turn into a book someday. I love riding my bike almost everywhere in NYC (the freedom is worth the risk) and I will always accept an opportunity to get down on a dance floor.
